As the school year comes to an end, and culmination is just around the corner, we wish to draw your attention to information regarding culmination and other 8th grade activities. Please review this information carefully.
8TH GRADE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Friday, May 26 - PERIOD 4 is the LAST OPPORTUNITY to Clear All Debts such as library fines,
textbooks, fundraisers, any school property, etc. Students may be denied
participation in culmination activities/ceremony if debts are not cleared by 1:30 pm.
Friday, June 2 - 8th GRADE DAY RECOGNITION CEREMONY (MPR) Recipients report at 8:00 am.
8:15 AM – Doors Open for Parents and Guests (MPR)
Friday, June 2 - GRAD NIGHT (Non-Sponsored LAUSD Event)
Students will receive informational letter from Friends of WHA
Monday, June 5 - 8th GRADE AWARDS NIGHT - 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM (8th grade lawn)
Parents of recipients are invited
Wednesday, June 7 - CULMINATION REHEARSAL – Periods 5, 6, & 1 (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM)
& 8th GRADE PICNIC – 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM – (MINIMUM DAY, Brunch - Per 4)
CULMINATING Students Only – 8th Grade Parents and Friends of WHA Students will receive informational letter from Friends of WHA
Thursday, June 8 - CULMINATION 8:00 AM - 8th Grade Lawn
Ceremony Begins Promptly At 8:00 AM - Gates Will Open at 7:30 AM
Graduates Must Be In the MPR to Line Up - at 7:15 AM
Seating is FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED - Absolutely No Saving Seats
after ceremony begins
PLEASE NOTE: To be eligible for all 8th Grade Activities and participation in the Culmination Ceremony, a student MUST have met the Academic/Citizenship requirements. Students will be bringing home a Culmination Status Letter on May 25th, regarding eligibility.
RECOMMENDED DRESS FOR CULMINATION ACTIVITIES
Friday, June 2 - 8th GRADE RECOGNITION: School Uniform
Friday, June 2 - Grad Night Students may wear jeans, uniform shirt, or class top
Monday, June 5 - 8th GRADE AWARDS NIGHT: Dressy
Wednesday, June 7 - 8th GRADE REHEARSAL AND
8th GRADE PICNIC: Students may wear their class shirt, club shirt, or
uniform
Thursday, June 8 - CULMINATION:
GIRLS may wear dresses of any color. Dresses should be appropriate for daytime wear, either long or knee-length. NO low cut dresses, low back, bare midriffs, or strapless dresses. Spaghetti straps or halter style is acceptable. Shoes should compliment the selected dress; therefore, tennis shoes, backless clogs, or high heels should not be worn. NO hats, gloves, purses allowed during the ceremony.
BOYS may wear suits, tuxedos are not recommended, slacks, and any style dress shirt. Ties are recommended, but not required.
Tennis shoes are not recommended for this occasion. NO Sandals! NO Hats! NO Gum!
**PARENTS PLEASE DO NOT BRING FLOWER/BALLOON BOUQUETS. They block the view of other guests.
**PARENTS PLEASE BE COURTEOUS TO STAFF AND KINDLY COMPLY WITH ALL INSTRUCTIONS FROM STAFF MEMBERS AT THE CEREMONY. OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE AN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE FOR ALL.
BEHAVIOR: Inappropriate behavior of even a few individuals can have an adverse effect on the ceremony. We ask that eligible students be on their best behavior at the rehearsal and all 8th grade activities. During the final days of the semester, students are reminded not to do anything that might result in suspension or jeopardize culmination status.
8th Grade students who are INELIGIBLE to culminate, will not be allowed to attend the culmination ceremony. These students will be denied access to the school campus.
